Coming from a completely 10-man background (we have dabbled lately with 25s, but that was fluke more than anything I think) I love them to bits. But I can completely agree with you that 10-mans can be frustrating when you are competitive. GuildOx 10-man strict can be fun to keep an eye on though for that purpose!

Also, the loot issue is something I do find confusing. A boss on 25-man has more health and does more dmg than the 10-man version, this is to take into account that you are bringing along 2.5 times as many people. So then why would they need higher ilvl loot as well since they are bringing those 2.5 times more people to do more dmg and healing?

I'm with you on the lag issue. Everything is fine in 10s but the same encounter in 25s will kill my framerate sometimes, especially if there are a lot of explosions and flashy stuff. I prefer to raid 10s over 25s for this reason alone. No amount of better gear or challenge is going to outweigh the enjoyment factor of raiding lag-free.

Ah, but have you discovered how ill thought out 10 man gear is? Itemisation and placement of drops for a variety of classes leaves more than a little to be desired.

Don't get me wrong, I love 10s. I substantially dislike the feeling I get from 25s of standing in a room full of strangers. I just wish Blizzard had thought some things out a little better.

The number one thing that I do *not* miss from vanilla raiding is 5 minute paladin buffs! Oh god, the horror! While raiding vent was constantly "hunters need this" "priests need that". It was horrible!

I have to say, after reading some of Kae's, and now your, blog posts about the 10 man progression ladder, it gets more and more attractive.

Less recruiting, less pulling people uphill...

But, like Cassandri, I don't know if I could give up my 25s either.

I'm not sure I could scale down to 10s full time and have as much fun - I love having seeing masses of people swarming over 1 boss.

If 40 mans still existed I'd do those too.

hopefully the upcoming patch will help out in the buffs department =)
I'm glad there is so much to love for you. Believe me, I adore raiding 25s but have twinges myself for 10s.

I like 10-mans too. The smaller, closer atmosphere, less loot drama and uncluttered Vent are those plusses. I've only done a few pug 25's including Vault, and there's ALWAYS the few that mess it up for everyone. The get lost, they don't listen, they wipe at the start.. ugh. I also hate how they try to fit in as little healers and as much scrub DPS as possible. And yes, the Recount meters matters so much more there. Thankfully, we have almost all the buffing classes in our 10-mans - shaman, priest, mage, druid (me), and usually two paladins, so our buffs are ok.

Sadly, my guild's trying to recruit more so we can do 25. Not looking forward to that, but I guess I'll just see where it goes.

Herding cats is exactly what it seems to come down to. It is hard enough to get people to get to the next boss, but if you head to a different instance, forget it!
Between the afk'ers and the people who need summons three times before they figure out how to click accept, going from TotC to VoA takes 20 mins, and we still have to summon a few stragglers after the trash is cleared.

And getting people in the right vehicles for FL is a nightmare. Last night it took 40 mins after the scheduled raid start before we could start the fight. Too many people kept going afk, or whining for buffs but not getting out of a vehicle, or jumping into the wrong vehicle. There are also a few who cause it to drag on.

In comparison, the 10 man runs I go on are usually all skilled players who are long term guildies, and we tear through the content. 4/5 TotGC10 already (while only 2/5 for the 25man). Those runs are so much smoother and less stressful.
