Execution time, not effective time.

Take a look at Curse of Doom. The warlock curse explodes 60 seconds after it was applied to the boss and does about 20'000 damage.

That means the curse dotes 20'000 / 60 = 333 dps.

A shadow bolt does about 5000 dmg and takes 2 second to cast.

That results in 5000 / 2 = 2500 dps.

Shadow Bolt has a higher dps then Curse of Doom.

But a dps does not care about dps of single spells. He only tries to maximise the amount of damage he can put out during a fight. During a boss fight you have a finite amount of time until the boss is dead (or enrages). Therefore, you try to use these time most effectife.

And that's where DPET comes into play. DPET (Damage per execute time) is the amount of damage a spell does divided by the cast time.

Curse of Doom is an instant and does 20'000 damage 60 seconds after it is applied.

That means Curse of Doom has 20'000 / 1.5 = 13'333 DPET.

Shadow Bolt still has 5000 / 2 = 2500 DPET.

The limiting resource of a DD is time, therefore you try to use the spells that do most damage for your cast time. If that damage happens instantanious or over some time does not matter.

Very nice comment cogfizzle. But I have one question.
What's the diffirence between dps (or hps) and dpet (hpet) :?:
In other words. When is something "effective time" and when is something just seconds?

Yea, definately slower is better down there. It's so hard because you want the buffs so badly, but I think I did worse rushing than when I just went slow and steady :) I also can't imagine them with the oceanic lag (ugh!).

I saw that, thanks! I'm so bad at it. But as I mentioned, I think I was rushing through the clouds too much instead of very deliberately picking each one up. More haste, less speed. I'll try harder next time.

I'll be linking back to your tips because they go into more detail on that aspect. :)

Hey Keeva!

I agree Druids own on this fight! I actually did a post today with my suggestions on it, and I did a *big* section on how to handle the clouds as our first handful of pulls I was also really struggling with them. I was able to consistently get 30+ stacks by the end of the night, and at one point last night got up to 42! Hopefully there is something over there that you find helpful and can use to help maximize your buffs next week :)

I also glyphed RR and Noursih for this fight, but did not grab empowered touch, although I probably will drop my moonkin spec for it next week.

I can't wait to see the rest of your thoughts on the fight!!!

Clouds break by simply swimming through them - I think you may have had to kill them on the PTR, but now you just swim around in them.

I just need better depth perception and less lag, I think. If you swim through them too fast, they don't pop. You seem to have to pause for a second.

In future I am going to focus on simply getting 2-3 per portal, rather than rushing around trying to build up huge stacks - that just makes me lag through the clouds and miss them entirely. Slow and steady, focusing on refreshing the stack (even if it's just one or two more each time) is the way to go, I think.

Actually druids are good for healing her, but you will only get 5-6 stacks at the most, on a good portal you might get 7. The reason why is because we will always have a harder time breaking the clouds. It requires an aoe to break them such as Holy Nova. I was pulling about 11k hps on that fight too with 2-3 stacks. Imagine how much more we could be doing if we were able to get the stack higher. Priests are a easier choice for healing, not just because of their output, but because they can stack that buff nearly to 20 without any issues at all. They have a much easier time breaking the clouds than any other healing class.

Jen: I'll post it soon :)

Lath: I know I can be competitive, I just really suck at clouds - and didn't get much time to practice. Last night on 10s I was mostly out on the raid. I won't be happy until I've mastered the art of stacking to 20+.

Kae: I'll definitely incorporate Rejuv into a target macro, thanks - didn't think of that. Might as well squeeze in a heal if you're pressing a button anyway, right? I like it.

Virile: RR increases your Rejuv HPS by quite a bit, so it is definitely worth using. You will need to recast more, obviously, but it's still better. Cogfizzle's numbers are basically what I am going to explain in my next post.

Kring: Unfortunately you lose her as your focus when you go into the portal, which is a royal pain. I have a focus window.. but you have to keep acquiring her as your focus. That's where a target/focus macro comes in.

Cogfizzle: You smell funny.

Kiliani: Definitely making good use of a focus frame. Just wish she didn't drop off when you take portals. I've used Quartz timers before, not much of a fan unfortunately. I said I went with Dotimer but that was a lie (got mixed up - I tried a few!), I used Classtimer and I'm really happy with what I've done with it. I'll show it in my next post. I've also done a few things with Power Auras to help me out - I'll explain those too :D
