Resto druid guide up!
For a little while now I’ve been working on a Resto healing guide of my own. For ages I didn’t bother, since there were other guides up, and I didn’t think it was worth the effort to reinvent the wheel. But I realised that if I want my site to be any kind of resource, I need it to have information that people are seeking when they come here.
I do have a guides page, but those guides have been a bit few and far between.
So in the future I would like my site to continue to be “bloggy”, but I’d like to put more of an emphasis on helpful and informative guide-type articles along the way, so that TBJ can be a solid resource for resto druids.
As a foundation, I’ve created my own resto PvE guide:
I haven’t added it to my guides page yet – but I will soon. I need to update that page a bit anyway.
Due to the size of the guide, I’m positive there will be typos, a broken link or two, and most likely some wonky advice, no doubt. If you spot something that you think isn’t quite right, would you mind letting me know?
Some of it is accepted theorycraft, but a lot of it is “this is how I do it” based on my experience. If you think something is way off base, or perhaps something is missing, please let me know. I’ve already had to fix one part of it because I wrote it from my point of view, rather than as a new druid.. so I don’t mind if you think something isn’t quite right.
(Just be gentle though, I spent a lot of time on it!)
Thanks!
Oops, quick edit: Before anyone comments – I realise it is too wide for a 15″ monitor (if you have one). Unfortunately if I make it any narrower, it will make it so that the text in many of the tables will have to be reduced to being almost illegible, in order to fit. I do apologise that you’ll have to scroll – but it has to be that wide. Cheers!

My name is Emma and I live in Australia. I’ve been gaming on and off since I was about 11. I won’t tell you exactly how long ago that was, let’s just say long enough.

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to get all this stuff together.

WOW. Just WOW.
Fantastic guide. I’m kind of tempted to level my 71 druid up now and have a go instead of my priest (or as well as) – now THAT is praise indeed
Thanks so much!

Wow, that looks amazing
I’ll shut up about the size then, but I’ll add another suggestion: more links. I’d put Wowhead links for talents, glyphs, gems… especially gems (the others are explained in the text, but the gem stats aren’t detailed anywhere). As a new druid, I’d have liked to be able to hover on a link, see the official description and read your ‘translation’ next to it.
(yes, i do realize there’s a billion and one potential links in that guide :))
(Also, as a new druid I was crying for something like this, and I never found it… but I’ll be sure to point new trees your way.)

You made it super purdy!
I can’t post purdy pictures like that on the WoW forums, so I have to keep mine plain for cross-copying most of the time.

Just a tip about the wide screen format (I have one). If a reader wants to make it a little less wide they can usually just hold control and use the scroll wheel to adjust the font size which should make it a little better for them. I generally increase the size on most web pages because they are formatted too small for my screen, so the inverse should also be true.

wow very impressive thanks.
will go through it in finer detail soon!
oh and pick up all your spelling mistakes along the way

I know it has already been said, but I really REALLY wish I had this when I was starting out.
Even this far into my resto life, this guide was really informative. Thanks!
Great guide!!

Keeva,
Excellent guide. Best I’ve read by FAR. Beats EJ to a pulp.
As Jen mentioned, wowhead hover links would help, but you can add those when you have time (It’s a pain…I’ve done it). Some discussion on 10-man vs. 25-man healing and a bit more on trinkets would be good.
Minor edits (being really nitpicky because I want this guide to look as good as possible):
- Imp. Rejuv talent description: “staple,” not “stable.”
- LB description: Should probably use the NS-modified duration when discussing rolling (8, not 6)
- WG description: “dependent,” not “dependant.”
- Abolish Poison needs capitalized.
- Spell rotations: “quasi,” not “quazi.”

Nice one! Thanks, looking out for decent guides to add to my resources list as I go along. This is definitely one I’ll be referring back to when I finally get around to levelling my Druid.

Wow…just, wow. That’s the be-all-end-all guide to Treedom in a very reader-friendly format. It’s even easy to skim like if you’re only looking for tips on one subject instead of reading a wall of text for one answer.
That’ll be -fun- to update for Cataclysm

Just finished reading the guide. I have read quite a few guides. And, coming from someone that levelled my druid as resto through dungeons recently and have been gearing up. I’d say this guide is spot on, and by far the best that I have seen anywhere.

Far and away, the most comprehensive yet easy to read guide for us trees yet. Simply the best Keeva.
Thanks for all your work on it, I can’t even imagine how long it must have taken you! When anyone now asks me stuff about trees in game, I’m definitely pointing them here.

This is a fantastic guide for new Trees (and older ones!).
The only thing I can see that might improve it is links to Wowhead for talents, gems etc. (You could install their script so that the tooltips pop up when a reader hovers over the link – http://www.wowhead.com/powered)
Edit: ok, I see several others have mentioned this already
I am adding my vote to the list!

Awesomesauce! Nicely organised, great depth. Only thing I’d like to point out: VuhDo also does Click-to-Cast, not just Clique. Anyhoo, excellent job ^^

I love this. Great work!
My only suggestion would be to have the links actually show the wowhead popups when you hover over. Like for all the gear, talents, spells, etc.
Otherwise, AWESOME!

Wow! Very nice.
Makes all my Tanking 101 posts look like crap.
Still reading through it but you missed Wild Growth on the table of “We have five types of heals:”

You might mention with the Wild Growth comments that even when everyone is spread out you can move to the mid point between them and target no one (self cast), or mouse over yourself if you use that sort of casting. This way you can still hit them all. Keeping the tank selected while casting it will almost always limit it’s range to just melee but if you use your own bark to bridge the gap you can often hit a whole 5 man mixed party. If you are using it heavily in 5 mans it can even be a good idea to tell the ranged DPS to move in a little.

Under Tips and Strats you mention prehotting the tank. You might urge that they ONLY do this if it is well in advance. If you hit the tank as he is moving in you run a large risk of pulling the whole pack off him. This is worse for certain tanks. I think if a DK grip pulls while he is standing near you then you will be in combat and those hots will pull all the griped guys friends to you instead of the tank. Also it could be noted that if they are pulling off the tank early on then they might experiment with changing their starting rotation and not prehotting.

Pictures or not, it is by far the best guide I’ve seen! Really great job Keeva!

Thanks Reversion, can’t believe I left WG off the table, wow! I’ll add it in.
I’m also hoping to flesh out some of the abilities with “strategies” like the WG one you mentioned. Now that I’ve got the basic guide up, I can look at adding to it with extra tidbits like that. Things like “if you run with two druids, and you have Revitalize but the other doesn’t, try to stick to WGing through melee” .. etc. I definitely want to expand on the “how to use” aspect of our spells. Not just “cast spell X when the tank takes Y damage” but the little nuances.
Regarding pre-hotting, I mentioned staying out of combat, but I think that’s down in the levelling section. I might copy/paste it up into the normal tips area too, because it’s good to know.
Thanks for taking the time to read it and comment, definitely helpful!
