*Official* Cataclysm Druid talent preview!
A preview of our talents is up at MMO – no more speculating on leaks and rumours! Blizzard has sent select fansites this preview information. As always, this information is not final, but should give us a good insight into our talents for Cataclysm.
For the full post, click here.
I won’t repost the whole thing, but here are some Resto-relevant highlights/changes:
Tree of Life (1 point) – Requires 5 points in Empowered Rejuvenation – Shapeshift into the tree of Life, increasing healing done by 15% and increasing your armor by 240%, but reducing your movement speed by 50%. In addition, some of your spells are temporarly enhanced while shapeshifted. Lasts 45 seconds. 5-minute cooldown. Enhanced spells: Lifebloom, Wild Growth, Regrowth, Entangling Roots, Thorns, Wrath
Improved Tree of Life (3 points) – Requires 1 point in Tree of Life – Reduces the cooldown of your Tree of Life by 30/60/90 seconds, and increases your damage done while in Tree of Life by 5/10/15%.
—
Nature’s Bounty [NYI] (5 points) – Requires 3 points in Improved Rejuvenation – Increases the critical effect chance of your Regrowth spell by 10% on targets at or below 25% health, and you have a 20% chance when you critically heal with Healing Touch and Nourish to reduce the remaining cooldown of your Swiftmend spell by 0.5 seconds. Increases the critical effect chance of your Regrowth and Nourish spells by 10/15/20/25%.
Swiftmend (1 point) – Requires 1 point in Nature’s Bounty [NYI] – Consumes a Rejuvenation or Regrowth effect on a friendly target to instantly heal the target for 5306. Keeva’s note: mostly unchanged, except that now it heals for a set amount rather than Xseconds. Will be affected by talents that boost Swiftmend by X%.
Empowered Touch [NYI] (2 points) – Your Healing Touch heals for 5% more on targets at or below 25% health, and your Nourish spell has a 50% chance to refresh the duration of your Lifebloom on targets. Your Healing Touch spell gains an additional 32%, and your Nourish spell gains an additional 16% of your bonus healing effects. Keeva’s note: handy for tank healing – saving GCDs not having to refresh LBs. Although it may take some getting used to if your LB is refreshing itself (but only 50% of the time).
Efflorescence [NYI] (3 points) – Requires 1 point in Living Seed – When you critically heal with your Regrowth spell you also sprout a bed of healing flora underneath the target, healing all nearby friendly targets within 15 yards who stand on them for 10/20/30% of the amount healed by your Regrowth every 1 seconds for 7 seconds. Increases your total spirit by 10/15/20/25%.
Revitalize (3 points) – When your Regrowth or Lifebloom heal-over-time periodic damage critically hits, you instantly regenerate 1/2/3% of your total mana. This effect cannot occur more than once every 6 seconds.
Gift of the Earthmother [NYI] (5 points) – Increases the healing done by your Tranquility on targets at or below 25% health by 4%, increases the healing done by the bloom effect of your Lifebloom by 2%, and your Rejuvenation spell also instantly heals for 3% of the total periodic effect. Increases your total spell haste by 4/6/8/10% and reduces the base cooldown of your Lifebloom spell by 4/6/8/10%.
Wild Growth (1 point) – Requires 1 point in Tree of Life – Heals up to 5 friendly party or raid members within 15 yards of the target for 2905 over 6.99 seconds. The amount healed is applied quickly at first, and slows down as the Wild Growth reaches its full duration.

I don’t have much to comment on yet, I said most of it in my previous comments on the same leaked abilities. Still no word on the “enhancements” that TOL grants each of our abilities (although we’ve seen some leaked). And I really don’t like that 50% snare – ten bucks says that gets axed somewhere along the way. Because what I really want is to pop my “I need to do more healing because it’s crunch time” cooldown and then get stuck in fire that I am slow-mo running out of. Snares suck.
Edit: for more analysis of the changes and what I think of them, refer to my earlier post (on the alpha leaks): http://treebarkjacket.com/2010/05/06/cataclysm-preliminary-talent-changes-unconfirmed/.

My name is Emma and I live in Australia. I’ve been gaming on and off since I was about 11. I won’t tell you exactly how long ago that was, let’s just say long enough.

very excited but… the new talent calculator on Mmo doesn’t seem to work (could be my old browser or the websites just getting to much traffic)
I hate waiting for something to work

The site is getting hammered, plus it’s a new feature they’ve only just released, so it will probably be buggy for a little while. I couldn’t get it at first, but then it worked.
My initial assessment is that the trees seem pretty bloaty.. I managed to pick up pretty much everything I wanted. There are some “TBR” (to be reworked/removed) talents too, which might free up even more points. I feel like I have too many to spend, to be honest.
Looking forward to seeing refinements.

It’s quiet this morning, the calculator works fine
.

As they’ve said mana will stop being infinite in Cata, I’ve set points in everything that reduces mana cost and increases hot duration
But I agree with Keeva, I don’t really know where to spend the last points :P, maybe Subtlety if we have more threat dangers, or Fury of Stormrage if we want to dps while healing

its pretty much like this with any other build, I’ve tried setting up a single target Feral dps build and ended up with 5-4 spare’s and nothing that could help dpswise. (using wowheads calc atm)
can’t really pick a ‘good’ restobuild before i know how healing is going to be in CC (we know that mana will be more imp and overhealing is getting pushed down but thats about it. how is the damage going to be, is mana cost going to inc on spells? what happens to the spells while in ToL?)
the more info i see the more questions i have

I’d think a 5 minute cd would be a big enough “penalty” for the ToL form, but add a 50% snare? Dang.
Also, what’s with Wrath being one of the “enhanced” spells? Hmmm, very interesting, I’ll have to see how they tweak things.

Empowered Touch sounds fun, at least the Nourish refreshing LB part. I’m still not convinced HT is going to win a spot in our rotation but I think Nourish will, especially paired with the Nature’s Bounty critical effect reduces Swiftmend cd bit. It’ll be more important than ever to have a very clear indicator of how long your HOTs are ticking for – well as long as Vuhdo keeps working in Cataclysm I’m good.

I see what you did there.

Everytime i see the cooldown on ToL my heart breaks alittle.
All I say is that sine they take away our trees, they BETTER have some Badass armor artwork, (because frankly the druid t10 art sucks lol)

Analogue, you might be right, but I don’t think we can judge by the talents. I fully expect a whole slew of changes to the baseline spells, particularly in terms of mana costs and base “heals for” amounts. It’s pretty clear their goal is that we’ll use HT for times like “tank’s pretty low, not going to die yet though, and I’ve got time to fill him back up.” They might not make it work, but I bet they’ll at least give it a try.
Delleyntar, I’m with you too. I hate being the only druid spec without a form.
From a talent perspective, it also makes Natural/Master Shapeshifter virtually worthless for Resto, even more so than before. Furor of course is pretty worthless for resto too. I’m on board with the design that encourages cross-speccing, but I’d like talents in the Resto tree to have at least some benefit for Resto.
Also check the “Developers Notes” (hover over the Bliz icon in the lower-right corner on MMO-Champ). One of the “To-Do” notes is “Restoration health raid buff”. Sounds like a druid version of PW: Fort, eh? I can’t decide if I think that’s cool or boring. Useful but boring, I guess.

“From a talent perspective, it also makes Natural/Master Shapeshifter virtually worthless for Resto, even more so than before. ”
You know, I never really thought about that. Surely they will do something to make it viable for us more than once every 3.5 minutes?
Or…we throw points into it for our short bursts as a tree?
Ugh…I agree, fairly lackluster.

I just do not like the ‘reducing your movement speed by 50%’. Tanks are pulling too fast as it is, IMO, and this will just slow us down even more. Am I missing something here?
Urak, it would seem to me that if your tank is chain pulling you won’t be popping ToL.
Sadly, the whole resto-druid situation has me looking to my disc priest taking over healing duties. That’s a shame because I like my druid.

The usefulness of Natural Shapeshifter will depend on how much “other” shifting we do throughout the fight (eg to get rid of snares/poly) – something I quite often use in some fights, but obviously this will depend on the fight design.
But, considering that on many fights I will enter as ToL and come out of the fight without ever having shifted, NS (in its current form) is often useless to me. In Cataclysm, that could mean that Natural Shapeshifter will be *more* useful, because we’ll be shifting at least once or twice per fight, plus any extra shifting (into animal forms) to break snares or poly.
It’s still not an amazing talent, but then, we’ve always just taken it to get down to Master Shapeshifter, so nothing has really changed there.
Master Shapeshifter grants 2/4% healing in ToL and caster form, so it is more useful than now – if we are in caster form we still get the +healing benefit, where now if we pop out for some reason (say to CC) we lose the benefit temporarily.

go down to the patch changes and in patch 3.0.2 they removed the snare that was on the tree of life before wrath. It was only 30% before, pushing it up to 50% isnt going to make tree of life more popular.

The 50% snare seems really bad, but we don’t know yet what will be the bonuses of ToL, so… We just have to wait and see
about 1 year ago
I think the whole 50% movement speed is stupid and that’s putting it mildly. And putting ToL on a CD is just plain retarded. I made a resto druid so I could be in tree form, if I wanted a toon to stay in caster form, I’d have rolled a priest or pally as my main. Its unfair to those of us who choose or want to be in tree form to have to now decide when to pop into it. I mean we won’t see bear tanks popping into caster form to tank, nor kitty dps or the boomkin. They all get the keep their forms, but the trees don’t. It’s just wrong imo.
I am so freaking happy that constantly having to roll in treeform is going away. I have never been so happy. I use to play successfully as a dreamstate druid & since WotLK there was no such spec. Instead of focusing on my druid, I dropped her & leveled a Disc priest for this expansion. Tree form was just toooo restricting. I am thankful that Blizzard finally saw the light. That being said, the reworked ToL isn’t that great either. Spend 6 points to have a 3m 30sec CD? Very expensive. The 50% snare is unreasonable and should be kicked. But maybe just maybe I will be allowed to raid again without having a tree form! Yay!
