Understanding Troll colouring
There’s still a lot of confusion over how the Troll feral forms come to be certain colours.
Some people believe it is based on skin colour or war paint colour. I threw this together to explain why it is definitely hair colour, and no you cannot mix and match different tiger stripes with different hair colours.
Troll colour FAQs
Why doesn’t skin colour count?
There are only five Troll skins for cat and bear, you can see them here: Druid colour charts . You cannot have a red mohawk bear with white skin because your Troll has red hair and white skin, or a bear with green skin because your troll has green skin.
Troll skin colour cannot be changed in the barber shop, and therefore is not how you customise your feral forms. Your skin colour has no bearing on your feral form.
What about face paint? I’ve heard people say it’s based on your face colour.
First of all, if it’s based on your facial markings, then female Trolls have absolutely no way to know what they are getting or how to change it, because they have no facial markings.
And besides that, the only things that trolls can change in the barber shop are hair style, hair colour, and tusk design – you cannot change the colour of your facial markings directly.
Do facial markings have any influence on feral forms?
Facial war paint (on males) is tied to two things. The design is controlled by the shape of your tusks, and the colour is controlled by your hair colour. Face colour is always tied to set hair colours, you cannot mix and match your hair and face colours. If you choose yellow hair, then any facial markings you have will ALWAYS be light green.
Here’s a chart to show you the different hair+warpaint colour combos. Remember, these are SET combinations. I’ve used the face design with the most paint to make it easy to see the colour.

Now, you can see that some of these combos have different face colours to their hair colours, for example a light blue hair colour with purple warpaint. So it’s easy to think that perhaps these colourful markings are linked to the feral forms. Unfortunately, no. They are not. You can’t choose different face colours to tweak your feral forms.
Warpaint designs are tied to tusk style; you can change your tusks to change your warpaint, but the colouring will always stay the same:

So as you can see, facial colour is tied to hair colour, and these colour combinations are set and cannot be changed. You cannot have a yellow-haired Troll with purple face markings to get a purple-haired cat. Your feral forms are based on your hair colour.
Now, the confusing thing of course is that your hair colour does not necessarily translate directly over into your feral hair colour. This is possibly where some of the confusion has come from – people with purple/pink haired Trolls end up with blue-haired cats and bears and wonder what went wrong, and blame it on skin colour or face colour. Except that a purple-haired Troll will have orange/red facial markings.. ugh!
To put this issue to rest, I tested every hair colour (and therefore every face colour) in the barber shop and double checked them to show you that the forms are, in fact, linked to hair colour. Trust me, this is the way it works:

So there you go folks – it’s not your skin colour or your face paint. Your skin colour doesn’t change your body/stripes, and your face paint doesn’t affect the colour scheme. There are only five set combinations, and they are controlled by hair colour.
