Bragging time – Naxx 25 clear!

Posted by Keeva | Achievements, My characters, Raiding | Thursday 27 November 2008 12:26 AM

Server first. Naxx cleared in one night, on our second week of raiding. Flawless KT one-shot. One extremely stressful moment when I disconnected and couldn’t get back on – thought I was going to be robbed of my title – but I got back online, phew.

Well done Inexorable!

Realm first tailoring

Posted by Keeva | Achievements, My characters | Tuesday 18 November 2008 7:56 PM

Thank you to all of my friends and Inexorable guildies who sold or gave me cloth and dust, farmed for me, sent me greens in the mail, patiently disenchanted gear for me, and most importantly to those who put their own professions to one side to help me out.

A lot of people spent a lot of time and gold helping me achieve this and although it might seem like a trivial achievement, it really showed me how great my guild (and extended Warcraft family) is. I’ll be donating cloth, enchanting mats and healing services back to the guild for a long time.

Thank you also to the (literally) hundreds of people who whispered me the second I got my achievement, I couldn’t believe it. I’m sorry I couldn’t reply to everyone to thank them personally.

So… anyone want to buy a couple of bags..?

Guide: 100 cooking recipes

Posted by Keeva | Achievements, Tips & guides | Saturday 25 October 2008 10:46 PM

Today I spent some time finishing off my Sous Chef achievement (learn 100 cooking recipes). I had no idea there were so many Alliance BOE recipes to grab – and most of them from one vendor in Stormwind! I sent my little NE warrior off to collect them for me while I made a list of the others that I needed. My guildies laughed at me because once again I had a spreadsheet.. but a couple asked me to share what I had, so I thought I would put a list together (similar to my post on 50 mounts) to make it a little easier for people to find the recipes they might be missing.

I’ve tried to arrange them in some semblance of an order. I’ve separated them into faction recipes, so you know which ones to search the AH for (or send an alt to fetch for you) and which ones you can easily find on a vendor (no more paying 10g on the AH for a 15s recipe). Also, the majority of quested recipes are actually BOE, so they may turn up on the AH also (or, once again, you could have another character grab them for you). I’ve also tried to arrange them by zone/town where I can, to make it a little faster, but sometimes recipes are sold in various places so you may need to check wowhead. Where a vendor or quest is a link, I have linked back to the wowhead info to speed things up for you.

The below list has 113 recipes.

Happy cooking!

Squashling and helm now also from treat bags!

Posted by Keeva | Achievements, Fun | Thursday 23 October 2008 7:19 AM

Time to farm those hourly trick or treats – Helms and Squashlings now come from treat bags and fire-fighting jack-o-lantern rewards as well!

It has been confirmed by Blizzard that this is an intended change.

I might get my Squashling after all! :)

Why oh why didn’t I trick or treat before I left for work… *fidgets impatiently*

Wishlist: Attunement checklist

Posted by Keeva | Achievements | Monday 20 October 2008 12:19 PM

Something that I would really like to see implemented, perhaps as part of the achievement interface, is a way to track your attunements and possibly your unfinished quest chains.

For example, in the past I have on several occasions abandoned a chain part-way through (eg Onyxia, Karazhan, Arcatraz) because I needed the space in my quest log and intended to pick the chain up again later. Predictably, I would then forget which stage of the quest I was at, grr.

And if you have a few alts, like me, sometimes it’s hard to remember whether you ever got around to becoming attuned to BWL or Naxx or Onyxia or whatever (again, sometimes the attunements are removed, but I’m sure you see what I’m getting at).

I think it would be wonderful if there could be an Attunements tab in your achievements, showing all of the attunements you have completed (even if they were later removed), plus the ones you have yet to complete (grey). Instead of wondering whether you’re attuned for something, you could just look up your attunements list and know for certain. Each attunement could then drop down to show which parts of the quest chain you had completed, and the last stage that you were at (it wouldn’t show the parts that you are yet to complete because that would be cheating a bit – well, kinda – wowhead shows those parts anyway). Just so you could say, “ah yes, I remember now, I killed that dragon and collected the Scepter of Awesome, then I was up to the part where I talk to that guy at the bottom of the lake” and pick it back up from there.

There are, of course, druid-specific benefits: how many of us decided to go back for our Aquatic form or Swift Flight Form at a later date? I completed most of the flight form chain but didn’t do Heroic Sethekk for months (laziness). It would have been nice to be able to open up a window and check which part I had to go back and do.

Wouldn’t that be nifty? Not only for the convenience of being able to finally pick things up and finish them, but also so that you could go and complete all of the attunements that don’t necessarily finish with a key in your keyring. Just to check them off your list. That would be a bonus to achievement-nuts who like to complete everything and tie up loose ends.

How to get 50 mounts before WotLK

Posted by Keeva | Achievements | Sunday 19 October 2008 2:01 AM

Idling in Shattrath on my shiny new Albino Drake, I get a lot of people asking where it came from (the intended outcome!) as well as a lot of guildies racing to try to get one for themselves. I spent a lot of time pre-patch compiling a list of all the mounts that I had access to, and then set about buying, grinding, pvping, and otherwise working towards my 50 total. The list of mounts available in the game is quite long, and since not everyone can ride every mount, the numbers available to each person can vary by quite a lot. It can be quite confusing to work out which mounts you have access to, and which ones you’re still missing.

So I thought I would share this information, in case people are still chasing their 50 mounts and need to know what their options are. For general info on mounts, visit the official WoW site – it will tell you where to buy your faction’s mounts, for example, which I haven’t outlined here.

Steps to collect 50 mounts for Leading the Cavalry

1. Buy your own faction’s mounts (including the level 30 versions)
2. Buy mounts from the other races of your faction
3. Buy normal flying mounts and epic flying mounts
4. Grind Netherwing and Sha’tari Skyguard rep for drakes and rays
5. Grind Mag’har/Kurenai rep for Talbuks
6. Grind rep with Cenarion Expedition for the Hippogryph (1600g)
7. PvP – battlegrounds, Halaa
8. If you’re still short – try some of the extras listed below.

So basically, unless you’re a Tauren, you have the ability to buy, grind, or PvP your way to 50 mounts. You’ll need to work towards them – through rep grinds, a lot of PvP, and earning some money (5000g for epic riding skill, the gold required for the vendor mounts, and the 1600g Hippogryph), but these are basically the "easiest" mounts to acquire without having to deal with RNG in instances and raids. NOTE: You can buy all 6 Netherwing Drakes; the first comes after you complete the final quest, but the other 5 can be purchased back on Netherwing Ledge from Drake Dealer Hurlunk.

If you still don’t have enough, here are some extra options:

Drops
Kael’thas (TK – 25 man) Ashes of Al’ar
Kael’thas (Mag Terrace – Heroic) Swift White Hawkstrider
Attumen (Karazhan – 10 man) Fiery Warhorse’s Reins

Once we hit Northrend there will be plenty more mounts injected into the game, and this guide is more to help people get their achievement straight away, without having to wait for the expansion. Here are some of the Northrend mount options.

WotLK mounts (some unconfirmed)
Mammoths (Northrend) Various
Proto drakes Various
Tailoring Flying Carpet
Magnificent Flying Carpet
Swift Flying Carpet
Swift Spellfire Carpet
Swift Ebonweave Carpet
Swift Mooncloth Carpet
Engineering

Mechano-hog (H), Mekgineer’s Chopper (A)

Finally, only mounts that go into your mount tab count towards the achievements. Temporary mounts such as broomsticks do not count. Class summoned mounts (warlock/pally/DK) do count, as far as I am aware.

Happy collecting!
